„Peace of the Heart“
In November 2022, after three years of preparation, Alexandra Guryeva (AUT) and Jens Neumann (AUT) set off from Punta Arenas (Chile) for Antarctica – together with Stefan Prucker (AUT) and polar legend, guide, and FRAM2 astronaut Eric Philips (AUS), who could be won over for this project. After two nights at Union Glacier Camp (West Antarctica), the team flew to the starting point on the Filchner Ice Shelf. It was Alexandra, Jens, and Stefan’s dream to spend an extended period in Antarctica and to establish a new route to the South Pole.
The spirit of discovery and the need to explore untouched land, the longing to experience the solitude and boundless expanse of Antarctica led the team to embark on the new 880 km route. For 50 days, they were completely on their own, “unsupported”—that is, without supply depots or air support. They were facing all the challenges of unfamiliar terrain, unpredictable weather, but above all, experiencing the joy of discovery, the silence of Antarctica, the beauty of pristine nature, and the eternal, divine existence of humankind.
Making Polar History
On January 11, 2023, their dream came true. The team arrived at the South Pole, thus making polar history. The new route was named PEACE OF THE HEART. Its official name is Filchner Iceshelf – Support Force Glacier – South Pole. The route now has a place in the world’s oldest ski museum at Holmenkollen (Olso, Norway) as a pioneering achievement alongside other famous historical expeditions. Alexandra’s accomplishment was recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records®.
This expedition fundamentally changed Alexandra and Jens, leading to the founding of the international social initiative LIVE YOUR DREAMS.
